Tile and grout cleaning in Mount Barker and the Adelaide Hills
New estates on one side of town, stone cottages on the other, and a climate that keeps bathrooms damp all winter. Same published prices as the city, no travel fee.
Mount Barker at a glance
We clean and seal tiles and grout across Mount Barker and the central Adelaide Hills at the same published prices as the city: shower recess $149, bathroom $229, floor tiles $8/m², clear sealing from $5/m². No travel or call-out fee. Hills jobs are grouped onto set days, so give us two or three date options. Minimum booking $149; pay after the job.
The fastest-growing town in the Hills
Mount Barker, about half an hour up the freeway from the city, has grown faster than almost anywhere in the state since the land on its edges was rezoned for housing, and the new estates (Aston Hills, Bluestone, Springlake, Newenham and the streets filling in toward Littlehampton and Nairne) now hold more people than the old town did. Those homes are five to fifteen years old and tiled the modern way: large porcelain with pale grout through an open-plan living area, a fully tiled ensuite with a frameless screen, an alfresco under the roofline. The grout was spotless at handover and has been going grey since, and because it is light and the tiles are big, a clean brings it right back and a clear seal keeps it that way. Floors are $8/m²; a 35 m² living area is $280, or $455 cleaned and sealed.
Hills winters and bathroom mould
The Hills are colder and wetter than the plains. Mount Barker gets about 40 per cent more rain than the city, frosts in winter, and long stretches when the house stays shut and the heater runs. Bathrooms dry slowly in those conditions, and a shower recess that never quite dries between uses grows mould in the corners and along the bottom rows faster than the same room would in the city. The fix is the same (a proper clean, $149 for a shower, $229 for a bathroom, then sealing so the grout holds less water), but the timing matters more: spring and summer are the best months to clean and seal, because the grout dries properly for the sealer to bond. Wood heaters add a film of fine soot that settles on tiles and in grout over winter; it cleans off with the right degreaser.
Stone cottages, slate floors and tank water
The old town centre around Gawler Street, and villages like Hahndorf, Nairne, Littlehampton and Echunga, are full of 1850s to 1920s stone cottages and later homes with slate or quarry-tile floors, tessellated verandahs and a bathroom added in the 1960s or 70s. We clean slate and old clay tiles with neutral products and soft agitation, never acid, and seal them with a penetrating sealer; we don’t apply gloss coatings or restore stone walls or floors. Many Hills properties are on rainwater tanks rather than mains, which is softer water, so there is often less limescale in the shower than in the city and more of the mould and soap-scum side. Tell us what the house is on and what the floors are; it helps the cleaner bring the right products.
How Hills bookings work
To keep the price the same as the city with no travel charge, we group Hills jobs onto set days rather than sending a van up the freeway for a single shower. That means a Mount Barker booking may be a few days further out than a city one. Give us two or three dates that suit and say if you have a hard deadline such as a tenancy handover or a sale campaign. If the house is up a dirt track or behind a gate, put that in the notes too. Rural-living blocks around Wistow, Macclesfield and Mount Barker Springs are included.

Mount Barker questions
Is there a travel fee for Mount Barker or the Hills?
No. Mount Barker, Littlehampton, Nairne, Hahndorf, Bridgewater, Stirling and the villages between are inside our standard service area, so the same published prices apply and there is no call-out or travel fee. The minimum booking is $149. The trade-off is that Hills jobs are grouped onto set days, so give us a couple of date options.
Which Hills towns do you cover?
Mount Barker and its estates, Littlehampton, Nairne, Hahndorf, Bridgewater, Stirling, Aldgate, Crafers, Echunga, Macclesfield, Wistow and Mount Barker Springs. Further out (Strathalbyn, Woodside, Lobethal) ask in the form with a couple of dates; it depends on grouping it with other jobs.
Why does my Hills bathroom get mouldy every winter?
Cold, wet winters and a house that stays closed up mean the shower never dries between uses, and mould grows wherever it is damp and still. A proper clean removes it; running the fan longer, cracking a window, a squeegee after showers and sealed grout slow its return. Spring is the best time to clean and seal, because the grout dries properly.
Can you clean the slate floor in an old Hills cottage?
Yes. Slate is cleaned with neutral products and soft agitation, never acid or wire brushes, and old peeling gloss coatings can be stripped where they are lifting. It is then sealed with a penetrating sealer. We don’t apply new gloss finishes, and badly flaking slate is a restorer’s job.
