Tile cleaning and grout cleaning in Adelaide
Adelaide tile and grout cleaners with the price on the page. A deep clean that gets into the grout, not just across the top of the tiles: showers and bathrooms, kitchen floors and splashbacks, living areas, laundries and alfresco tiles.
What’s included
- A walk-through with you, and an honest read on what will and won’t come up
- A small test area first where the tile or grout is unusual
- Pre-treatment matched to the problem: degreaser in kitchens, scale and soap-scum remover in showers, mould treatment on affected grout
- Scrubbing every grout line with grout brushes and machine agitation where the area suits it
- Rinsing and extracting the dirty water, so it doesn’t dry back into the grout
- A final check with you, plus advice on drying and keeping it clean
Showers and bathrooms
Black grout in the corners and along the bottom rows, a pink film near the drain, and the chalky haze Adelaide’s hard water leaves on glass and tiles. A shower recess clean covers the walls to tiled height and the floor, including niches and ledges; a bathroom clean adds the floor tiles and any tiled walls outside the shower. Mould and mildew on the grout are treated, soap scum and scale dissolved and rinsed off, and the dirty solution extracted. Shower recess $149, bathroom or ensuite $229, each extra bathroom $179 at the same visit.
Where mould has stained deep into old grout you may still see a faint shadow afterwards; colour sealing covers it. Mould inside silicone stays, because it has grown into the silicone; replacing it is part of a regrout. Want to try it yourself first? Read how to get mould out of shower grout.
Kitchen floors, splashbacks and living areas
Floor grout gets darker the more you mop, because the mop water runs into the lines and dries there, and near the cooktop airborne grease glues the next lot of dirt in place. We degrease the kitchen end, machine-scrub open areas, hand-brush edges and corners, then rinse and extract. Floors are $8 per square metre; a 20 m² kitchen and dining area is $160. Grout that has been dark for years is $11/m², confirmed with you before we start. A tiled splashback is $69, and a toilet or laundry floor $69 when added to another job.
Outdoor and alfresco tiles
Alfresco areas, verandahs, balconies and tiled patios collect dust, leaf tannin, algae in the shaded corners and barbecue grease. They are cleaned at the same $8/m² floor rate, with a product matched to the soiling and a rinse that doesn’t flood the house. Outdoor grout is usually unsealed and often cracked by sun and movement; we’ll tell you if it needs repair rather than cleaning. Pavers, concrete, driveways and roofs are pressure-washing jobs for our sister brand, PressClean.
We also clean slate and terrazzo
A lot of Adelaide housing from the 1950s to the 1980s has terrazzo in the bathroom, laundry or entry, and slate floors through the living areas. Both are cleaned with neutral products and gentle agitation, never acids, and both can be sealed afterwards. What we don’t do is grind, hone or polish: if terrazzo is scratched through or slate is flaking, that is a stone restorer’s job and we’ll say so. More in our terrazzo guide.
How long it takes and when you can use the room
As a guide: about an hour to an hour and a half for a shower recess, two to three hours for a standard bathroom, and two to three hours for around 30 m² of floor. Long-neglected grout takes longer.
Cleaned tiles are usually ready to walk on within an hour or two. Grout takes longer to dry right through, especially in a closed-up bathroom in winter. A fan or an open window helps. If you’ve booked sealing, the grout has to be dry first. See grout sealing for cure times.
What affects the price
- Size. Rooms have fixed prices; floors are priced per square metre.
- Condition. Very dark, long-neglected floor grout is $11/m² instead of $8/m². We confirm this with you before starting.
- Sealing. Clear or colour sealing is an add-on to the clean.
- Surface. Slate, terrazzo and natural stone need gentler products and a slower pass; tell us in the form and we’ll confirm the approach before booking.
Tile and grout cleaning and sealing are not building work, so no licence is needed for them in South Australia. Regrouting and grout repair are treated as building work, so they are quoted separately and carried out by a licensed tiler.
Before and after
Example results from professional tile and grout cleaning. Every job is different: tile type, grout age and how long it has been stained all affect what comes up, so we tell you what to expect before we start.

What to expect from a clean
Usually lifts
Everyday dirt, soap scum, body oils and grease, hard-water film, and most surface mould and mildew staining on grout.
Often improves, may not fully lift
Grout that has been dark for years, deep-set stains and old mould shadows. It will be much cleaner, but may not return to its original colour. Colour sealing evens it out.
Cleaning can’t fix
Cracked, crumbling or missing grout and mould growing inside silicone. Those need regrouting or re-siliconing, which we quote separately after an inspection. Water getting in behind tiles needs a waterproofer, not us. We’ll tell you if we see it.
Tile cleaning as an end-of-lease add-on
Dirty grout in the bathroom and kitchen is an easy thing for a property manager to note at a final inspection. A general bond clean wipes the tiles down, but it may not include deep grout cleaning. Check with your cleaner.
If it isn’t included, book us for the day before or the morning of your bond clean. Put your handover date in the notes when you request a quote. The same published prices apply.
What we don’t do
- Shower leak repairs or waterproofing
- Re-tiling or replacing broken tiles
- Grinding, honing or polishing stone
- Pressure washing of pavers, concrete, driveways and roofs (see below)

PressClean →Questions about tile cleaning
What kinds of tiles do you clean?
Glazed ceramic and porcelain tiles indoors and out: bathrooms, showers, kitchens, laundries, living areas, hallways, alfresco areas and balconies. We also clean slate and terrazzo floors, and the grout between natural-stone tiles such as marble, travertine and limestone, using neutral products. We don’t polish, hone or restore stone.
How long does a tile and grout clean take?
A shower recess usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half, a standard bathroom two to three hours, and a 30 m² floor around two to three hours. Heavily soiled grout and sealing add time.
Can you remove the white haze on my shower tiles?
Usually, yes. That chalky film is limescale from Adelaide’s hard water bonded with soap residue. It needs a cleaner that dissolves mineral scale, followed by a rinse, which is part of a shower or bathroom clean. On natural stone we use a different, non-acidic approach, so tell us if your shower is stone.
Do I need to be home?
Someone needs to let the cleaner in and confirm the job at the start. After that you don’t need to stay, as long as we can reach you by phone.
Is the clean safe for kids and pets?
Keep children and pets out of the area while the work is under way and until floors are dry. The cleaner will tell you when the area is ready to use, and when it’s safe to walk on any sealed grout.
How much does it cost to professionally clean tiles?
In Adelaide our published prices are $149 for a shower recess, $229 for a bathroom or ensuite, $69 for a kitchen splashback and $8 per square metre for floor tiles ($11/m² for long-neglected grout), with a $149 minimum and no call-out fee. Most other Adelaide tile cleaners quote after a visit; the one national operator that publishes a rate has a $350 to $400 minimum.
Is it worth it to have tiles professionally cleaned?
For one lightly grey shower, try a baking soda and peroxide paste first; it costs a few dollars. For whole floors, kitchen bench lines, old grout, or a bathroom that has to look right for an inspection or a sale, a professional clean with rinse-and-extraction usually gives a better result per dollar than hiring a machine, because the dirty water leaves the room instead of drying back into the grout. Sealing afterwards keeps it that way.
Do you need a licence to clean tiles and grout in SA?
No. Cleaning and sealing tiles and grout are not building work, so no licence applies. Regrouting and grout repair are different: they are treated as building work in South Australia, which is why we have those done by a licensed tiler and quote them separately.
